Cub Scout Six Essentials
1. First-Aid Kit: Even the best Scouts get scrapes or bug bites. A first-aid kit has bandages, wipes and other supplies to treat small injuries. Check out how you can build your own first-aid kit.
2. Filled Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is super important when you’re active. Always carry a full water bottle so you can take sips along the way and keep your energy up.
3. Flashlight: You should be prepared for darkness — even on a day hike. A flashlight helps you see in the dark and can be used to signal for help if you get lost. Check the batteries before you pack it!
4. Trail food: Hiking can make you hungry! Trail food gives you the energy to keep going. Pack snacks like granola bars, trail mix or fruit snacks. They’re easy to carry, won’t spoil and give you the energy you need.
5. Sun protection: The sun can be strong even on cloudy days. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses or a hat to protect your skin and eyes from the sun’s rays.
6. Whistle: A whistle is a small tool that can make a big noise. If you ever get lost or need help, blow three short blasts. It’s the signal for “I need help!” But remember, don’t blow a whistle just for fun.
